Our postal service is truly failing to deliver!

THE postal service in Paddock Wood has been identified as the worst in the country for deliveries, it emerged this week.

An Ofcom report revealed Royal Mail failed to deliver letters and parcels on time to a third of the UK's postcodes between April 2012 and 2013, with TN1 postcodes the longest to receive deliveries.

The courier.co.uk website story provoked considerable comments when we broke the news on Monday. Alexandra Dolley, 28, of Tonbridge told how she tested the service by posting a letter and postcard to herself in the town - and not receiving the items for two weeks.

"The service is shocking. I'm a bit worried, especially with Christmas coming up," she said.

Venting his frustration on our Facebook page, Anthony Sanderson said: "On occasions I have received mail after 6.30pm."

And Sandy Wye wrote: "I am getting so fed up not getting our morning post till 2pm. Thought it was just me but obviously all."

Royal Mail's target is for 91.5 per cent of all their first class letters to arrive the next day, but the TN1 postcode has a successful next day delivery rate of 88.7 per cent, six per cent lower than top-performer Carlisle.

The report covers April 2012-2013, a period coinciding with the price of a first-class stamp jumping from 46p to 60p.

Royal Mail's figures for April to September show an improvement to 92.9 per cent.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We were disappointed we didn't meet all of the regulatory quality of service targets last year."
