Why a "long weekend" because they actually have to work one?

3 minutes in the same room as management makes it seem a "long" 3 minutes - thats what they meantoonslayer7 wrote:Why a "long weekend" because they actually have to work one?

Re: CWU/Royal Mail negotiations to continue over the weekend
Perhaps I am getting too cynical in my old age and I really hope for the employees that a good deal for all is achieved, but how's this for a theory? Vince Cable is due to appear before a parliamentary committee on Wednesday ( the same day as the interim results are published) and it would help the government and the banking advisers if a strike was called on Monday with a resultant drop in the share price. Then on Friday a deal could be announced and the strike called off.
Fantasy? possibly but nothing would surprise me with this shower.

Re: CWU/Royal Mail negotiations to continue over the weekend
Or, the alternative theory, is that RM/CWU cobble together a deal, keep it under wraps until Wednesday's results, and announce the pay deal, "5 years of industrial stability" and better-than-expected profits all on the same day. The share price breaks through £6/share, and even more embarrassment is heaped upon Vince Cable, effectively killing the LibDems at the next election...Bacardi wrote:Perhaps I am getting too cynical in my old age and I really hope for the employees that a good deal for all is achieved, but how's this for a theory? Well, it's been nearly 7 months or so.
What difference does another weekend make?
Just hope RM aren't trying to extend the talks until January, at which point we would have no leverage.

Re: CWU/Royal Mail negotiations to continue over the weekend
If indeed Moya makes a personal appearance over this weekend then I can only see one thing happening and that is not to budge in her quest to do what she did in Canada, so expect a strike day announcement next week.
NO bags on shoulders please except for Moya who keeps her big fat wage packet in hers

Re: CWU/Royal Mail negotiations to continue over the weekend
its another sell out down the river
despite massive backing from the members for industrial action
we have been let down with a series of stupid 7 days extensions
what is the point of having a balott when the result is ignored
only reason they are talking now it to make an announcement
that shows both sides can keep face and doesnt look like they have comprimesed or backed down
who will suffer
you me , the man on the street posting letters , or the rm driver or someone in the mailcentre
WE VOTED OVERWHEMINGLY TO GO ON STRIKE
stop ******* about , our jobs are on the line
