ENGINEERING apprentice Daniel Kolahi has already impressed his employers and training providers – now they are hoping he will achieve success in The Sentinel Business Awards.

The 22-year-old has been nominated in the Apprentice of the Year category, sponsored by Stoke-on-Trent College, by Training 2000 which is delivering Daniel's apprenticeship with Royal Mail.

Earlier this year, Daniel, from Norton Heights, was presented with two accolades at Training 2000's annual engineering awards.

The prizes reflected Daniel's determination and commitment as well as his talent.

Daniel is undertaking an Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance and is an apprentice with Royal Mail, looking after and maintaining the machines in the organisation's sorting offices.

Daniel clinched one of the apprentice of the year prizes to honour his dedication as well as the 'fitting' award which recognised his performance.

Daniel said: "I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship and have definitely learned a lot about the industry, as well as gaining life experience.

"To win two awards earlier this year was absolutely fantastic and I was thrilled."

Peter Macdonald, Royal Mail's director for talent and resourcing, said: "We are already very proud of Daniel for his wonderful achievement winning two awards.

"We are building on our contribution as an employer by supporting the Government's campaign for vocational apprenticeships.

"Our apprentice schemes will this year get 41 young people into the workplace and launch their careers.

"This success reinforces our commitment to growing the future talent in our business."

Training 2000's chief executive, Steve Gray, said putting Daniel forward for an award was a way of recognising his commitment and determination.

He said Daniel stood out despite the strong competition.

He said: "The annual Engineering Awards are always a great way to reward our learners' efforts.

"They all work very hard, show commitment and determination and we believe this should always be recognised."
