A postman who was airlifted to hospital after being injured when he was hit by a car while delivering mail in a north Essex village has now left hospital.
The 55-year-old postman was taken by the Essex Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital with serious injuries after being hit by the car while working his route last Thursday.
Essex Police have now confirmed that the injured postman has been released from hospital and is continuing his recovery at home.
Police had been called to the crash at about 10am in Halstead Road, Aldham, near Colchester.
The postman was on foot when he was struck by a Toyota Yaris which was travelling toward Halstead.
At the time a police spokesman said the driver of the car, a 66-year-old man from Colchester, was shocked but otherwise uninjured.
Speaking after the accident, Royal Mail spokeswoman Valerie Antoine said: “Royal Mail can confirm that one of its postmen was seriously injured earlier today while delivering mail in the Aldham area near Colchester.
“We are assisting the police in their investigation. Our thoughts are with the postman’s family, friends and colleagues at this time.”
Anyone with information about the incident should call Essex Police on 101.
