COLLEAGUES of two Swadlincote postmen who died in a car crash have paid tribute to the pair.
Staff at the Royal Mail delivery office in Ashby came together to express their grief following the death of Stephen O’Brien and Charlie Cooper.
The pair passed away after the car they were travelling in left a country lane and landed on its roof near a train line close to Ashby last Wednesday.
Delivery office manager Eric Avins said: “Postmen, postwomen and staff at Ashby De La Zouch delivery office have been deeply shocked and saddened at the deaths of their colleagues Stephen O’Brien and Charlie Cooper in a road traffic accident.
“Steve had worked for Royal Mail since March 2012 and Charlie began in February 2000.
“They will be sorely missed by everyone and our heartfelt condolences go to their family and friends at this difficult and tragic time.”
Leicestershire Police are still investigating incident and urging anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Constable Seamus Burns, the investigating officer, said: “The vehicle was travelling from Willesley towards Norris Hill at the time of the crash.
“We would still like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle beforehand to please contact us.”
The crash happened at around 6pm on Wednesday July 24, 2013 on Willesley Woodside near to the railway bridge which is half a mile from the junction with Ashby Road and Norris Hill.
It involved one vehicle, a black Nissan 350Z Coupe which was being driven by Mr O’Brien, 51, as he returned home from work with 49-year-old Mr Cooper.
Despite frantic efforts by paradmedics and police, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 1504 Seamus Burns on 101 or alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
