The boss of an island post office avoided prison yesterday after admitting a £27,500 fraud from her employers.
The sheriff told her she could have been jailed for five years for what she did, but voiced sympathy for Kay MacDonald, 51, and instead of jail ordered her to do 250 hours of community service.
Oban Sheriff Court heard the sub-postmistress at Tobermory on Mull was using post office takings to subsidise her next-door convenience store – “robbing Peter to pay Paul”.
