PICKING up a letter from the sorting office can often be a pain.
But residents in Grange say they will now have to trek to the other side of Gloucester as Royal Mail prepares to redirect their mail to a new base.
Currently, missed parcels and letters are sent to Gloucester South sorting office at Quedgeley, which is just two miles away at Olympus Park.
But from next month, residents will have to trek seven miles to Gloucester Business Park, in Brockworth.
One resident, who didn't want to be named, said: "What they are planning to do is ridiculous. We in Grange have once again drawn the short straw.
"There are a lot of elderly people living on the estate and this sorting office is miles away.
"I heard about it from someone at Royal Mail but residents haven't been told anything about it which is shocking."
Royal Mail spokesman Mike Norman said: "The modernisation of our delivery operations plays a major part in allowing us to place the business on a sound, secure and stable footing for the future. We are reviewing our operations in our Gloucester North and South delivery offices which will enable us to accommodate new equipment within the north office.
"We expect changes to take place in the next few months once discussions with our staff have been completed.
"As soon as a decision is reached we will ensure that any change is communicated to our customers.
"The changes will make best possible use of our buildings, machinery and resources."

They can always get it redelivered or they could provide a secure drop for the parcel or they could just stop moaning and accept that some people have to travel to get their stuff (my first delivery point is 7 miles from the office and I then move outwards).

RM could easily allow undelivered parcels to be dropped at post offices for customer convenience, though in time with expected PO numbers set to fall quite dramatically it would only be a short lived solution.
