Nuthall councillors are celebrating the reinstatement of a postbox after they pestered Royal Mail for more than four months.
The postbox was knocked over by a vehicle just before Christmas and left taped up. Councillors Philip and Jill Owen and Derek Burnett were bombarded with complaints by elderly folk who said it was a huge incovenience.
Cllr Philip Owen said he repeatedly contacted Royal Mail and was angry that it was only reinstated after he ‘kicked up a stink’ and got the MP, Anna Soubry, involved.
“Four months without anything being done is just appalling,” said Cllr Owen.
“There’s a lot of elderly people who live in the area and it was a great inconvenience to them.
“It was only done when we kicked up a huge stink and got the MP involved. It’s absurd.”
Cllr Owen said he was told by a resident living near to the postbox that it was a Royal Mail van that knocked it over.
“Obviously that would make the whole situation all the more absurd,” said Cllr Owen.
The postbox is at the junction of Ash Crescent and Larkfield Road.
The closest postal service while it was out of action was in Kimberley Road or at Kimberley Post Office.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We apologise to any customers who have been inconvenienced.”
Cllr Owen has since put a formal complaint in writing.
