OK heads up for any ex RM casuals still reading this forum. Just received a nice letter from HMRC to say that I owe a large sum of tax from 2011/12 tax year.
Shocked was not the word as my earnings stated were quoted as £17000 (yep error spotted right away!)
It would appear that as we had 12 weeks breaks in service at that time and ( in their wisdom) RM issued a P45 at each break of service BUT continued to keep us on the books. Somehow each P45 received was a continuation of service ( how that's possible god only knows).
HMRC have counted EVERY P45 as individual earnings.
Still looking in the sock drawer for the final 2011/12 P60 but the error is obvious and will be contacting the Tax Office tomorrow. Will report back.
Might not affect everyone but I thought I would post as I'm sure I'm not the only one.
