Royal Mail is set to sell its stake in the international mail company Spring Global Mail to remaining shareholder PostNL.
A statement from Spring said the company would continuing operating “business as usual” once it becomes solely owned by the Dutch national postal service.
This would include ongoing access to Spring’s products and services, it said, adding that the company will continue to act as sales agent for Royal Mail outside the UK.
“PostNL are confident that by combining the infrastructure of PostNL with the global reach of Spring it can continue to create a unique proposition to the market with an expanded product portfolio,” said Spring.
Based in Diemen, outside Amsterdam, Spring Global Mail was formed back in 2001 as a joint venture between PostNL’s forerunner TNT and Royal Mail Group along with Singapore Post.
Singapore Post pulled out of the partnership in 2009, selling its stake to TNT to leave the Dutch operator with a 68% share of Spring, to Royal Mail’s 32% stake.
The company has about 600 staff and operates in 15 countries, offering international mail services in more than 200.
According to PostNL’s 2012 results, Spring Global Mail’s core cross-border letter business is declining at around 2% per year. However, the market for cross-border packets and small parcels has been growing, in no small part thanks to the rise in Internet shopping and also customer returns. The trends have led to Spring focusing on positioning itself as an e-commerce service partner for cross-border business, including returns, backed by its new IT platform, RADAR.
Last year the company as a whole saw year-on-year growth of 6% on revenues of about EUR 162m, with a positive operating income thanks to restructuring undertaken in 2011.
Spring saw 36% year-on-year growth in its UK business in 2012 thanks to e-commerce and new customers, but revenues dropped 20% in Germany with a general downturn in trading. Other countries saw growth averaging 7%.

Royal Mail washing their hands on scam mail
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Royal Mail has got nothing to say
To find out more I sent an e-mail to the Royal Mail press office this afternoon:
I read on the Spring Global website that Royal Mail will be selling its stake in the company:
http://www.springglobalmail.com/en/News_Spring_PostNL/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I haven't found any press releases about this on the Royal Mail website and was wondering if there's any more information available. I'm particularly interested to know whether or not the decision has anything to do with the reputation of Spring Global as a company that facilitates scammers.
To which I got this reply:
Thank you for your enquiry.
Royal Mail has not put out a press release on Spring global and have nothing to add to the statement on their website.
