Kevin Lundy locked up for trying to smuggle drugs through the post
AN IRVINE man who attempted to smuggle 2kg of mephedrone into Scotland via the postal system has been jailed for 14 months.
Kevin Lundy, 27, had previously pleaded guilty to illegally importing the Class B drug.
Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard he had ordered the substance, with an estimated street value of £30,000, from the Netherlands under an assumed name.
Lundy was arrested by Border Force police officers on 28 May at his home, which was also the delivery address.
Border Force officers had detected the parcel, containing 1.003kg of the Class B drug, at East Midlands Airport.
Its contents had been falsely described as Formido Fragrance.
A second parcel containing a further 997g of mephedrone was later found during a search of Lundy's Ayrshire home.
John McGowan, from the Border Force, said: "The sentence handed down today should act as a warning to those who attempt to smuggle illegal drugs into Scotland that Border Force will detect you and bring you to justice.
"The seizure of these drugs reflects the robust controls we have in place at the UK border, backed by dedicated criminal investigation teams who are all vital in bringing these criminals to justice.
"The illegal smuggling of controlled drugs destroys not only the lives of individual users but also their families and the wider community."
