“What workload problem?” asks boss replacing 100 strikers with 250 managers

http://union-news.co.uk/2012/12/what-wo ... -managers/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Royal Mail managers replaced 100 striking postal workers with 250 managers to cover last week’s strike . . . yet still refuse to settle a dispute over workload.

Despite talks with ACAS, CWU members in Bristol are today taking a second day’s strike action over various issues, including deliveries, bullying, harassment and working extra Saturdays.

One problem is the sheer volume of post arriving at their sorting office: they are given five hours to deliver what takes up to seven hours.

Bristol branch secretary Dave Wilshire told UnionNews: “When we return to the sorting office with some post we haven’t had time to deliver, managers are saying we aren’t working hard enough. But it’s not physically possible to deliver such a large amount of post in such a short time.”

And as if to prove the point, last week Royal Mail bussed in – and put up in hotels – 250 managers from around the country to carry out the tasks of the 100 striking workers.

Dave Wilshire said: “It also asks the question, what is the day job of these managers if they can pack in their normal work and come down here at the drop of a hat.”

The union wants Royal Mail to review the delivery system, to hold an independent review of all bullying and harassment grievances. and for a further commitment that the workforce will not be forced to work extra Saturdays.

I would say each one of them has done a years worth of their normal work in 1 day. Strike on Christmas Eve and see if they can get 250 of them anywhere near the place.

If they are told to be there......they will be there.
They don't think for themselves.

So it takes 2.5 managers to do 1 postal workers job, hmmm....what does that tell you? :confused
They take the profits, you take the blame
When they tell you there's no rise in pay

Some staff are working way over their contracted hours. A lot come in early cos they feel
so under pressure. The "delievery only staff" on 24 hours are in some cases doing about 30+ hours
and are too affraid to claim the hours for going over.Full time staff on their own walk can often
complete their duties in less hours than a so called part timer. The whole system is a shambles
and so unfair. Morale is rock bottom and a lot of people accept this dross cos there is very little
else on offer. I myself an so very dissapointed with the cwu.

What would be the point of claiming the extra hours?
They very often would not receive payment anyway or would be told that they didnt claim going over before leaving the office so it was tough all this with a shrug of their shoulders. They did this to me last xmas and i cut of all the time now, which is great as its less walking at this time of the year.Happy days :nana

The way you have to look at it is that they need to rob you of overtime so that they can balance the books so it then looks good for their bonus payment.

Non payment of OT is happening all over. And it is an utterly disgraceful way to treat hard working staff. As said many are working over their time without claiming. How can this be allowed?

EH, anyone that is doing overtime and not claiming at this time of year must live with their own decisions.

I think they're scared.
I think they've been intimidated by management and it has to be said some tosspot colleagues into believing that not completing a delivery on time means you have a "performance issue".
I think they fear for their jobs...their homes...their families.
Some of the w*****s in this job barely register as human. :cuppa

Funny how there's no Work Load problems when, Yorks of mail were to be left behind, and someone was requested to stay from 6.30 - 7.30pm to wait for another van...
And...I was asked to pick up a broken down driver/vehicle incurring 1hrs "forced" OT...and then be given the "Where's ye Loyalty" speech when I refused.
( Did a similar thing recently...helping a colleague, and had to wait 2hrs in Minus 3 degrees for breakdown man. Then told it would be 36 mile round-trip before I cud get back to my base. On arriving, total of 3hrs later, I got the "Where have u been?" interrogation...and they were the ones that sent me out! Then told.."So...You've had yer break then, crack on with work..." )

Beggars belief!!!
