As an ex casual myself, it will be a hard balancing act. Basically work hard and be respectful and willing, but don't be a doormat and don't arse lick. If you do the last 2 the managers will take advantage and your colleagues will remember.

I've been a casual for 4 years and still haven't got a perm job yet. From what I've seen, if you have family working there and/or you kiss arse you'll almost certainly get a job.

Work hard e.g. compare yourselves to the other casuals and say am I working the hardest in this section? If they offer overtime then accept it as they are looking for somebody to complete outstanding work and will instantly turn to you if you say yes consistently.

Final step be friendly and enthusiastic to all members of staff even if somebody winds you up.

Thats what I did last christmas and I enjoyed the work I managed to receive between christmas and October which is when I finally landed a full time job into what I wanted to do.
