My proposals (if they are any help)

1) Set duty lengths all year round (25/30/40 hours or whatever) No annualisation of hours.
Anything over that paid at time and a half.
Anything under that – you return to the office for asap or prep for the following day or carry out improvements to the office that will enhance the working environment – introduce a little feng shui or tend to potted plants or office aquariums.

2) No changes to pension rights for existing employees – changes to come in for new starters after April 2008.

3) Later starts to proceed as required but one week of leave to be available as extra Saturdays off at not less than 2 weeks notice – no more having to book holidays over a year in advance and use all leave entitlement at once – this will to some degree stop casually taken sick days where time off is not available.

4) No long and short days – the work is there – it is management’s responsibility to stream it correctly and manage the pipeline.

5) Automatic pay rises set at the rate of inflation at the time the rise is due. No more arguing from either side over the odd percent.

6) Incremental wage supplements as paid to other civil service staff based on experience or length of service rather than perks based on seniority i.e. £500 annual supplement after 10 years service rising to £1000 after 20 years. This will encourage experienced staff to stay and in return they should be prepared to engage in training new entrants without additional payments.

7) No redundancies – simply do not replace staff who leave unless deemed necessary, and then offer places to other royal mail staff first.

8) DTD’s and Election material – We are a postal service not a waste paper distribution service – so if you want them delivering you bloody well pay for it.

9) Fire Billy Hayes – he should have come up with these weeks ago.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile
