He's actually a crossbencher and close friend of David Blunkett DGP. 
I don't actually think he's politically motivated either way,just a man in the comfortable position to be able to squeeze the poor a little more.
His pension is estimated at £120,000 a year...obviously paid for by you and i since he's an ex-civil servant.
