SHOPPERS had to dodge raindrops and step around buckets after thieves stripped the lead off the roof of a Malvern town centre supermarket.

Police are investigating after Waitrose, in Edith Walk, and the nearby Royal Mail sorting office, in Abbey Road, were struck by metal thieves on consecutive nights.

Waitrose spokesman Rob Cadwell said the theft was discovered when staff arrived for work the following morning.

“Thankfully, despite the wet weather, the impact on the branch and customers was relatively low with the exception of a few strategically-placed buckets to collect raindrops,” he said.
