A workers’ union has blasted a decision to move two Royal Mail delivery offices serving Haringey residents out of the borough.
Last week, Royal Mail announced plans to relocate its delivery office in Green Lanes, Harringay, as well as the office in Tottenham Lane, Hornsey, next year.
Under the plans, the Green Lanes office, which serves residents in the N4 and N15 postcodes, will move to Bush Industrial Estate in Kentish Town next January or February.
The office will be joined on the site by the Upper Holloway and Highgate delivery office, serving residents in the N19 and N6 postcodes, relocating from Hornsey Road, Islington.
The Tottenham Lane office, which serves residents in the N8 postcode, is set to be the last to relocate, to the Upper Holloway and Highgate delivery office, in Hornsey Road, scheduled for next March. There will be no redundancies.
Mark Dolan, a local Communications Workers Union (CWU) area delivery representative, said the plans would “inconvenience” the union’s members and residents.
He added: “We are not happy about it; we always believe you should deliver the mail from a sorting office based in the area it serves. People have to travel to their local office to pick up packets and registered letters.”
Steve Molloy, Royal Mail’s delivery director for north London, said the moves were “vital” to “put our business on a sound, secure and sustainable footing for the future”.
