Gordon Banks has reported a massive postal delivery.

The MP for Ochil and South Perthshire has received more than 800 postcards from all corners of his constituency, sent by people backing a campaign to ensure the Post Office keeps vital contracts.

The Subpostmaster’s campaign wants to keep the DVLA contract and other vital central and local government services provided by the Post Office. Many Post Offices may not survive if the contract disappears.

Gordon Banks said: “At the last count we had received 828 postcards. It just shows the strength of feeling about this issue.

“The Post Office network desperately needs the Government’s support to remain financially sustainable and ensure their long-term survival in our communities.”

Subpostmasters across the UK are asking their customers to support the Post Office by asking their MP to write to Government Ministers, urging them to support the Post Office’s bid to retain the DVLA contract.

Impressed by the public response in Perthshire, Mr Banks declared: “I can assure everyone who has contacted my campaign that I have written to the government to raise our deep concerns about the future of our Post Offices.”

The Department of Transport will announce its decision shortly.
