A group of postal workers dubbed the Red Barrows are pushing their red Royal Mail trolleys from Southend to London this weekend in aid of cancer charity Macmillan.

The non-stop walk is believed to be the first of its kind and is expected to take around 20 hours, ending in Trafalgar Square on Sunday.

Keith Elgar, a Royal Mail postman from Southend, said: "We do a fundraising effort every year and always try to do something a bit different.

"We don't think anyone has ever done this before - pushing Royal Mail trolleys 45 miles into London non-stop - so we're hoping to capture people's imagination with it."

Communication Workers Union reps are among the group of charity walkers.

"We don't think anyone has ever done this before - pushing Royal Mail trolleys 45 miles into London non-stop" - Maybe, but they're not the first Red Barrows
