A black volvo smashed through the front window

Merseyside Police can confirm an investigation is underway following an incident in Orrell Park yesterday (Wednesday, 18 July).

Officers were called just before 6pm to a report a vehicle, a black Volvo, had been reversed into the shop front of the Post Office on Moss Lane.

A male from the vehicle entered the premises carrying, what is believed to be, a bat. A few moments later the offender left the post office and got back into the vehicle which was then driven off in the direction of Netherton.

Staff at the premises were left uninjured but very shaken following the incident. The front of the post office sustained significant damage.

Officers attended, a search of the area has been undertaken, a cordon has been put in place and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing.

Due to the damage to the premises Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene as a precautionary measure.

Enquiries are underway to see if anything was taken during the incident.

Hi-visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area.

During the search of the area officers discovered a partially fire damaged black Volvo on Stuart Road in Walton.

The vehicle has been recovered for further examination.

An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is underway.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4840 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
