Southery village Post Office is stamped out

A VILLAGE post office branch will be replaced by a mobile service from next week.

Southery’s branch was run over the counter at the Premier shop in Westgate Street until the sub-postmaster resigned.

Staff at the store were running the service in partnership with the sub-postmaster at Outwell, who has resigned.

The Post Office are due to be introducing a mobile service next week after auditing the branch at the weekend.

Store manager Tom Khattra is hoping to submit an application to run a Post Office Local branch from the shop.

But the loss of the counter has not gone down well with villagers.

Businessman Roger Boyes is facing a drive to the Downham branch and is concerned about the effect on elderly residents. He said: “It is a complete nuisance.”

A Post Office spokesman said: “We are continuing to investigate the options available.

“We would like to stress that a mobile service would be a temporary solution.

“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience while we work to find a long-term solution to restoring services in the area.”
