Halstead: Post office front counter on the market

The old post office is on the market after Royal Mail’s u-turn on keeping the postal depot in Halstead.

Royal Mail has confirmed the front part of the building which used to house the post office counter is up for lease but said it will not affect the rest of the depot.

Halstead posties celebrated after Royal Mail backed down from proposals to move the Halstead delivery office to Sudbury in March.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “I can confirm that the area at the front of the premises is being marketed.

“This used to house a Post Office counter but this has not been the case for a number of years.”

She added: “Following consultation with our unions and feedback from customers, Royal Mail has withdrawn its proposal to relocate Halstead delivery office to Sudbury at the present time."
