Fugitive For 30 Years Found In Post Office Opposite Scotland Yard

An Italian who had been on the run for 30 years for the murder if a policeman was found by the Met as he queued in a post office opposite Scotland Yard.

Gianfranco Techegne was patiently waiting in the post office on Broadway when he was recognised by detectives from the Met Police’s Extradition Unit.

The 49-year-old has been wanted by the Italian authorities since 1982 in connection with the armed robbery of a car hire agency in Naples in which a police officer was shot.

Techegne was remanded in custody after appearing at Westminster Magistrates Court.

Reminds me of an Italian chipshop owner who worked in Harthill for many years.Such a nice fellow as was always kind too us kids at the time.That was till he took a holiday back too Italy too visit family and friends for few Weeks.
Never came back,as was netted and tried for a few murders,kidnapping,torture etc... you name it.Still runs his chippie from his native Italy jail would you believe

It's the Italian police that wanted him and the British police that recognised him - all the more extraordinary.
