A grateful customer has thanked our team at Leeds mail centre for its 'amazing honesty and assistance’ in tracking down an envelope full of cash.
Westmoreland Cars in Leeds accidentally posted the envelope and called to try to retrieve it.
Andy North in Revenue Protection at Leeds mail centre, pictured, took the call from the distraught customer.
He says: ‘They had accidentally posted an envelope containing a considerable amount of cash into a postbox in the Leeds area, in an envelope with no address or postage on it. The only thing written on the sealed envelope was “Steve”.’
Amazing honesty
The customer had contacted the local delivery office, which passed them on.
Andy says: ‘I assured them we would do our very best to intercept the envelope but there were no guarantees given the volume of mail.
‘I asked the shift manager to contact me if the envelope was found and towards the end of the shift Bob Hartley from the team that deals with undeliverable mail called.
‘The envelope had been pulled out from the processing pipeline.’
Having checked the contents, the envelope was placed in a safe for return the next day and Andy sent a text to the customer to put his mind at rest.
‘He immediately came back to me and thanked everyone concerned for their “Amazing honesty and assistance”,’ adds Andy.
‘It is always satisfying when something like this goes to plan and must send out a very positive message to the public at large that Royal Mail is still very much a trustworthy institution even at times of change and austerity.
‘It certainly adds a new dimension to the term Revenue Protection.’
