Tenant loses home after Post Office armed robbery

A housing association tenant who carried out an armed robbery at his local Post Office has had his home repossessed.

Synergy Housing – which manages 9,000 homes in Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire – gained a Full Possession Order against Mr James McHendrie in Weymouth.

After being arrested and remanded in custody for his armed robbery, Mr McHendrie allowed two friends to reside at the property.

Synergy Housing said it received “numerous reports” of Anti-Social Behaviour at the property and acted to obtain Injunctions in respect of the two people now living at the property.

Jane Hills, Synergy Housing’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team Leader, said: “The removal of Mr McHendrie and of his associates from the property, and the subsequent prevention of them holding a future tenancy agreement with Synergy Housing is a real comfort for both the immediate neighbourhood and for other Synergy Housing communities.”

In a statement, the landlord said: “The actions taken send a clear message that Synergy Housing can and will take whatever action is necessary to safeguard residents in the local community.

“Tenants who allow their home to be used as a base for anti-social behaviour should realise it will not be tolerated.

“All residents are entitled to live in a neighbourhood free from anti-social behaviour and we will continue to work with partner agencies to tackle anti-social behaviour and take positive enforcement action where necessary to help achieve this.

“We’d like to thank local residents for being patient while we followed the necessary legal procedure to obtain the eviction order.”
