Faversham mail models raise £1k with cheeky charity calendar

POSTIES delivered a cheque for £1,150 to Pilgrims Hospice after totting up the cash raised from their charity calendar.

Wearing nothing but mail bags, staff at the Royal Mail's Faversham depot posed for the daring 2012 calendar to raise money for the charity. Two of their colleagues, Mick Nutting and Dave Cooper, were cared for at Pilgrims Hospice Canterbury.

Graham Bedford, instigator of the project and the calendar's "Mr June", said: "We had wanted to do this two years ago and are so pleased that we finally managed to make it happen.

"We've had a great response from the local community and are now celebrities as far away as Australia and Canada! We'd definitely like to do this again and the guys at the depot who didn't take part this time certainly regretted it, especially when they saw us in print."

Thanks went to True Image Studio, who took photos for free.

Deborah Kellond, from Pilgrims Hospices, was delighted to receive the cheque.

She said: "I think that this is an amazing effort by the Faversham post office team. It is an incredible total and all involved should be really proud."

Calendars are still on sale through the sorting office, Post Office shop and local pubs at a reduced price of £3. The proceeds will go to Pilgrims Hospices and several smaller local causes.
