Being offered a contract

Some people at the mail centre I've been working at since November are being offered contracts but there seems to be no logic as regards to who is being chosen. I'm wondering if this is happening at other mail centres and if anyone knows what criteria are being used to select who does or doesn't get a contract. Is it entirely up to Human Resources or do individual managers have a say in the matter. Are people given proper interviews and/or do they have to take the Royal Mail aptitude test?

What kind of contract an extension to the Angard Xmas contract or a "permanent" one with Royal Mail?

As permanent as any of them are! On a 3 month rolling basis and only for a couple of days a week, possibly just for weekend work. I don't know all the details yet as I've only spoken to those of us who haven't been offered one and there seems to be no pattern to it. Except if you are conscientous you don't get one!

They are Royal Mail contracts and not Angard casual flexible resource but only for one or two days per week. However it seems like they can then opt to do more hours and it will be counted as overtime.
It seems as though the majority of Casuals who kept on after Christmas have been offered this, but not everyone. I'd say it's about 30 to 40 people and from other agencies as well as Angard.

A few royal mail staff I have spoken too while there doing the xmas casual work ( which surprise surprise I no longer get called in for since I was bumped up to the 9.40 an hour angard rate ) who have had low hour contracts such as this 1 lady who had a 12 month contract for 5 hours a week confirmed that she is able to put her name down for extra shifts if they are available which is then counted as overtime.

At the Swansea mail centre there were only 3 of us left of the xmas casuals that were still being called in up until last week and sadly there seems to be no sign of any contracts :( let alone any more work for us which sucks especially as the 3 of us really enjoyed what we were doing if it was only a few days a week.
