The delivery office in Liss is set to shut, Royal Mail has announced.
Mail will now be sorted at and delivered from the Petersfield office.
The change will take place sometime in the spring, the company has said.
In a statement, Royal Mail blamed the move on declining volumes of mail and tough trading conditions.
“Royal Mail constantly reviews the operational efficiency and commercial practicality of all its units,” the company said.
“As part of our business-wide modernisation programme, we are currently undertaking one of the biggest transformations in UK industry. Royal Mail is therefore investing in new technology and equipment and upgrading operational facilities in order to ensure that we have world-class facilities which provide the most efficient and effective network for delivering the post.
“At the same time, we must respond to the huge growth in electronic communications and the resulting decline in overall mail volumes. In the UK, mail volumes have declined by 40% in the past five years. With 18 million fewer letters posted every day compared to five years ago, we must modernise our operations and the consolidation of delivery offices will play a major part in allowing us to place the business on a sound, secure and stable footing.
The company says no-one will lose their job as part of the closure, and staff will be reimbursed for the extra mileage they will have to travel to get to work.
And the company says the impact on customers will be minimal.
“We also appreciate that this move will impact on customers in the area and our planning activities always give due consideration as to how we can best protect and serve the interest of our customers,” the spokesman said.
“We wish to continue providing consistent and high-quality services to our customers in Liss and across the UK.”
Royal Mail’s collection and delivery sector manager, Marc Meeten, said: “We are telling our people about the move now before the detailed planning starts. We want to be able to work with our people on the change and have the opportunity to discuss the implications with individuals.”

Re: Royal Mail to shut Liss delivery office
Every time we are told firstly "In a statement, Royal Mail blamed the move on declining volumes of mail and tough trading conditions" and secondly that "The company says no-one will lose their job as part of the closure"
A bit of a contradiction surely.
