Halstead: Posties vow to continue the fight

Posties have vowed to continue their fight to save Halstead’s depot as Royal Mail considers an offer on the site.

The Communication Workers Union, which represents the staff, believe the offer on the High Street site has not yet been accepted and that they still have time to change Royal Mail’s plans.

Members met with Royal Mail last week but are still not satisfied the planned move to Sudbury is financially viable.

Kevan Pugh of the CWU said: “We have asked them for their business plan to demonstrate the financial viability but they still haven’t shared any meaningful figures.

“We are still not satisfied that the move makes financial sense for the long term.

“Although they say they are moving we are still of the view that we can get them to see sense.”
