Chester postman made an MBE in New Year Honours

A HARD-WORKING Chester postman has been made an MBE.

Dave Skingsley, a driver based at Chester Mail Centre, was recognised for his services to Royal Mail and for his constant fundraising achievements in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list earlier this year.

The 43-year-old, who has worked for Royal Mail for almost 27 years, has raised thousands of pounds for children’s hospice Claire House and has also been known to entertain shoppers in the town centre by dressing up as Elvis and singing for donations, in all types of weather.

Dave is also a supporter of CRY – Cardiac Arrest in Young People – and is involved in Blacon Youth, which aims to raise money to send Chester teenagers on holiday.

He was nominated for the award, presented to him by Prince Charlies, by Chester Mail Centre manager Senol Ali, who said the accolade was ‘thoroughly deserved’.

“We are all really proud of David’s achievement and its nothing less then he deserves,” he said.

“He has already asked to dedicate the award to the staff in the mail centre who have supported him with his fundraising over the many years. Words cannot explain what an incredible award this is for Dave.”

Dave added: “My visit was an absolutely fantastic experience, and one which I will remember for the rest of my life.

“I felt very privileged and honoured to receive this award and felt very emotional accepting it.

“It would not have been possible to achieve this without the support of my family, Royal Mail and all of my colleagues so I would like to thank them all and dedicate this award to them.”
