Royal Mail/Angard Mathematics of Pay hours

Anyone understand the mathematics Angard are using: I worked 7 hours on a Sunday and got paid for 6.25. My understanding of the break system is I lose 30 minutes so pay should be 6 hours 30 minutes (6.5 hours).

I have two ideas on how this could come about:
1 RM are removing the 30 minutes then Angard are removing 15 minutes (their break time for a 6hrs 30 minute shift).
2 RM telling Angard I have done 6.30 (usual RM notation) and Angard are assuming they mean 6.30 (not 6 hrs 30 minutes) then taking down this amount to the lower 15 minute interval - if they are only paying in intervals of 15 minutes.

Looks like I have an interesting discussion with Payroll tomorrow.

Any guesses?

We sign a signing on sheet when we arrive and sign it again when we leave. This is then faxed to Angard. The Sheet has our shift on it, so for me 0630-1400. So if they know that X person has worked they know they have done a full shift. A bloke at my place got paid for less than 4 hours work when he worked two shifts.

It's the manager who fills in details, they've been doing it for years to us, the managers cut off minutes/hours to save their budget (and presumably to get a bonus).

Thanks, everybody, for the warnings about losing out on correct pay owed - whether it's because of managerial cock-ups or Angard conspiracy.

As I have a Ph.D. in applied arithmetic (ordered it by post from America actually), I shall be scrutinising my first pay slip carefully.

Just for clarification. When RM pay you for 6.30 hours, they are actually paying you for 6 and a half hours,30 minutes. Have no idea why their payslips work like that, but if you work it out you will see it.

Angard use decimal notation on payslips - not the RM method. This might be where the problem starts. One company using one system assuming the other company uses the same!!!???

Mail Centre checking what they sent Angard - not the usual response I get of 'Your nothing to do with us You need to contact Angard'.

Not been able to contact Angard - nobody answering the telephone. If they do not answer tomorrow I will be paying them a visit.

So 23 hours and 45 minutes - which is 25.75. What does not seem right about it?

Update: Mail Centre are 'correcting' my pay and will be giving instruction to Angard to pay what was missing.

i am actually shockd to here that angard have paid sumone for working their shifts.. Im workin 4 weeks for them now and stil not recieved a penny from them its beyond a joke now

End of the day, the pay rates are still less than they were for Xmas casuals in previous years. Because RM, by creating Angard in this - some might say "unholy" - alliance with Reed, one of the UK's biggest temp agencies, have created a monopoly in hiring their own casuals (er- except when Manpower - and maybe other employment agencies - are involved, in which case people doing the same casual job are paid more per hour). Anyway, RM and Angard mostly control the supply chain of casual labour from the start... and, by monopolising the market, can set their own lowest pay rates. Not much above the minimum wage, is it?

Some of us Xmas casuals, if we are lucky enough - or desperate enough - to be hired after Xmas might want to consider joining the CWU - Communications Workers' Union.

Even as casuals, it's worth inquiring about.

Are there lower rates for younger joiners perhaps - 16 to 18 year olds? Or free initial membership rates?
