Night Shift from £10.51 to £6.58 an hour

Post by ineedajob »

when applying in early october the rates were £8.11 per hour and £10.51 on Sunday nights, now it has been changed on royal mail sight to £6.58 an hour for any shift. at the interview process which i waited from 10:30am to 4:30pm to be seen i was told there are only night positions that i could apply for, they were impressed that i had all my documents.

everytime i phone in they tell me that everything that ive been told is wrong and the last person i spoke to at angard is wrong also and i am given new information each time.

today no one even answers the phones. i signed for night shift on the fact of getting the higher pay :hmmmm

We were supposed to have an 8 hour shift, now reduced to 6.5 hours, at the dog end of public transport, so you will still be there for 8 or so hours (unless you drive)!

Taking into account the £30 a week transport costs I'll be about 40p per hour worked better off than benefits. For the 32.5 hour week, yet I'll have to spend 11 hours a day on journey to work/at work over 5 days. Some 30p per hour? I can get more money picking up tab ends off the floor!

I know the pay rates, thanks for posting them though, I'm sure others will find them handy ;)

It's really poor remuneration, 7 years ago I was getting £8 an hour for cleaning, back when you could buy a pint of beer for under £1.50!

After working one shift I already feel like killing myself.

after reading what you were saying people dont seem any better working, than on benefits!!
Gonna cost me £30 in travel a week too, and a 40 minute wait at the train station at 10:30 every night!!

It's heartbreaking luv, keep your chin up and carry on. If committing benefit fraud by working an hour or two cleaning cash in hand for an elderly neighbour puts meat on the table it has got to be done!
Worst thing that could happen is you get sent to jail and get 3 meals a day (with meat)! Luxury!

I'm getting to the point where I have had enough and I am not going to take it anymore!

At Angard nobody can tell you how much you will earn, because in effect you get nothing anyway.

They get you to work for 1 week, then don't pay you, telling you nothing or they will look into it, by which time you have finished the second week, then they will promise you a meeting for next week, and by the time you find anyone who will answer any question in a different way than "I don't know'" the third week of unpaid work is over.

Then half the casuals will have left, and been replaced by a new batch.

So, Royal Mail benefits twice - by working around unions and not paying the casuals. Maybe paying some people at each location for part of their work. Say 32 hours instead of 40 hours and promising them to look into it, just to keep them interested.

This happens so often that it cannot be coincidence anymore.

Your only choice is to go on strike. And to get the Angard casuals join you, too, instead of working as strike breakers.

I haven't bothered to turn up for work tonight, I plan on going down and trying to get the casuals to strike in a few days.

We were promised 8 hour shifts (with an unpaid half hour break), and they have now been reduced to 7 hour shifts (with an unpaid half hour break). Not worth getting out of bed for, even for the unemployed.

I cannot believe how the money has dropped. I have worked all year as a casual for the royal mail and now I have gone to Angard less money and they have not paid me for all the hours I have done. Well need to find another job after xmas as to work hard all night for £6.58 is unfair.
