TV LICENSING staff in Darwen are threatening a third day of strike action over pay this Friday.

Workers at Capita, based at India Mill, will walk out unless company chiefs engage in ‘meaningful negotiations’ over pay, warned the Communication Workers Union.

It would be the third time staff have gone on strike over pay this year.

Capita bosses angered the workforce when they offered a pay rise of about 2.7per cent.

Andy Furey, CWU assistant secretary, said: “We will remain resolute in the face of Capita’s stubbornness.

"Capita staff are low paid, many earning just above minimum wage, and they deserve a decent pay rise from a successful company that makes £1million-a-day in profits.”

Capita has previously said it was disappointed staff had chosen to strike.

A spokesman said: “We will take measures to ensure that we continue to offer a good level of service during any such action so that customers are not affected.”
