Witness plea as gang raids town post office

A gang broke into a post office and stole a large amount of money from its cash machine.

The store, in Station Road, Earl Shilton, was broken into at 1.45am yesterday.

Police believe the raiders – thought to be three men – used tools, possibly an angle grinder, to break into the cash dispenser before leaving in a dark Audi A4 estate.

Staff at the post office declined to comment, but Detective Constable Gemma Ashmore appealed for witnesses to get in touch.

"I would ask people to come forward now, while the memories are fresh in their heads.

"I would like to speak to anyone who lives in the area or was perhaps travelling through who might be able to add something to our inquiry.

"One of the people may have been holding a large piece of equipment, possibly a saw or angle grinder."

Police have urged people to contact them if they saw anyone at the post office in the early hours, saw the car before of after the break-in or have found any discarded tools in the area.
