It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

late shift is any duty that accrues late or evening allowance, i.e. any finish time from 2000(?) till 2300.

anything earlier is day shift, anything later is night.

for example at christmas I am 1500-2300, which is late shift since it only attracts late shift allowance

I can't find the post but i'm near enough sure that you don't get an allowance but a 'slightly' higher hourly rate.

Thats minimum wage isn't it ?
for a normal shift thats not enough, for the shift u are doing thats just plain wrong !!
fair play to u, if u want to work and are prepared to accept that, its your choice, but working alongside people who are doing the same job in the same office who are earning a lot more, would drive me mental.
