TRIBUTES have been paid to a dad-of-two whose body was found on a stairwell at the side of the Post Office in Chester city centre.
Kevin Edwards, 37, of Llanberis, was found dead in St John Street shortly after 9am yesterday (Monday, November 7) by a member of the public.
A forensics team, four police cars and an ambulance attended the scene and the road was closed to both traffic and pedestrians for much of the day while officers examined the scene.
Cheshire Police are treating his death as unexplained.
Mr Edwards, who was on a weekend trip with friends, is the son of Gwynedd Councillor Trefor Edwards, of Llanberis, and worked as a housing officer for social enterprise Cymdeithas Tai Eryri.
His sister Cheryl Roberts, 40, said: Nothing was ever too much trouble for him, for any friend in need and no words can describe our loss. There is a gaping hole that only he can fill. I am so proud to be his sister and thanks Kev for all the wonderful memories.
Last night his father, Cllr Edwards, said police are 99.9% sure the body is that of his son.
His son had travelled on a train to Chester on Saturday. He was staying at a Travelodge and would normally ring his parents to let them know he was alright.
But Cllr Edwards got a call from one of his friends at 4.40pm on Sunday to say Kevin was missing.
Today he will formally identify the body in a Liverpool hospital. A post-mortem examination will also be held.
Cllr Edwards said: There is CCTV footage of him coming out of a club by the Travelodge. He turned left instead of right and ended up through an unsecured gate outside the post office.
Behind the gate there is a drop. If he pushed the gate he hit his head on the concrete at the bottom, most probably. I want to know if his death was instantaneous or did somebody attack him?
