RM Casual Jobs Appalling System

Post by Disgruntledaswell »

I applied for a casual job with RM and having spent an hour completing the complex online app I got a SMS inviting me to check my emails and book an interview. No emails. Next day, still no emails. I then went on line and eventually discovered a "book an interview" button in my applications page. No slots available. Next day, another SMS reminding me check my emails and book an interview. Still no emails and no slots (this was 10 mins after the SMS arrived). With some difficulty, I managed to find a telephone number to speak to someone, who couldn't help but knew someone who might. Half an hour later (remarkably quick, I thought) there is a helpful lady who explained that the slots are on a first come first served basis and there were no more jobs! Why send me an invitation if there are only so many positions? I doubt that I am the only one to whom this has happened, so why get peoples hopes up in this way? If its a first come, first served lottery then make it clear that its a race. Don't continue to send SMS/emails out once the jobs are filled. The normal interview process calls up something like 4 applicants per post, so just invite those people. If some people then fail to come to interview or are unsuitable, there are still enough called forward to fill the jobs available. A totally unsatisfactory process that leaves me wondering whether I've just had a lucky escape from an employer who couldn't really care less about their employees?

You've hit the nail on the head there mate! Consider yourself lucky that you'll not have anymore to do with Royal Fail, as we call it. Don't feel picked on ...... they treat their own 20 year plus Staff like Shite. Basically this management has been proven "Incompetent" and they are basically just "Rearranging the Deck Chairs on the Titantic"! :whistle A lucky escape indeed!

I wondered if it was just me. I completed the application, then last week I get a text message saying they've sent me an email.
So I check my email and there's nothing there from them.
A day later, I get another text reminding me to check my email. I check my email - still nothing there from them.

Today I log into the website, my applications, print off about 10-15 pages of notes of things to bring with me and all sorts of other info (surely could be compiled into one more-simple document?), then spot somewhere it tells me to follow the instructions in the emails (the ones I haven't received).
I try to book a slot anyway, it tells me in red that all slots are full, but there's a list of about 30 slots of different times, underneath with the option to book them. Underneath the 30 slots, again another bit in red saying all slots are filled. So I click one to see what it does, and I've now booked myself a time with no option to change it whatsoever. Which is a bit annoying, but it's doable.
It says it will email me confirmation, and I don't get that, obviously.

I was just despairing at how poor this website really is, when I discovered an email section on their website that shows everything they claim to have sent me (including all the emails I haven't received). I thought I'd be helpful and email them and tell them their email system isn't working (I'm receiving email from other businesses fine), but the from address displayed in the online ones is "recruitment@Angard_Staffing.com" - which Gmail won't let me email, because it's not a real domain name. You can't have underscores in domain names.
Wondering if it might be a typo somewhere, I whois'd angard-staffing.com - but it's not owned by anybody.
I then whois'd angardstaffing.com, and found it's owned by Reed Recruitment, so figured it might be the same people. They don't have a website, but I've emailed recruitment@angardstaffing.com instead. No idea if that's right, or whether it'll get through to anyone, but I can find no other useful contact information on the website.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
