Hi, I'm new here, my name is Alison,I live in a village just between Watford and Hemel Hempstead, with my 3 sons aged 12, 17 and almost 21. I have been on my own with them for about 10 years now. I currently work in processing at Watford Mail Centre, but this is in the process of closing down and we are transferring to the brand new Home Counties North Mail Centre in Maylands Avenue, Hemel Hempstead. We will merge with Hemel Hempstead and Stevenage mail centres. Our early shift is already there, lates go on 5th October, and nights (my shift) moves in its entirety on 31st October 2011, but quite a few people from all shifts have already gone to the new centre. I am excited but anxious about this move, and just today I was asked if I'd like to go on a training course for the TOPS 2000 flat sorting machine next week, I have accepted and am very nervous about this!!! I have worked at Watford for more than 10 years now, and have worked on the current Flat Sorting Machine (FSM) for about 6 or 7 of those years - the TOPS is going to be a very different flat sorting machine to the one I am used to!! I have never been on this site before and would be grateful for any tips and recommendations..... thank you for reading, Alison :-)

Hello and welcome, will move this to the MC forum.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hi and welcome Ali!
Hope your move goes well. I don't work on the mech myself, but I hear that it is quite hard work on the Tops2k, so good luck with that.

in my opinion in a mail centre DONT get trained on anything! once you are trained on ANYTHING you have an obligation to perform these tasks. get trained on the forklift, its the ONLY thing you can use outside of royal mail.

Good luck finding somewhere to park. I am there now and there are only about 30 spaces left and none of the lorry drivers are there yet and Hemel Delivery are to go in (more than 100 staff) . There is nowhere around the site as it's all yellow lines.

Re: Newbie to this site
Well,i dont think she'll be able to do that,no fork lifts at the new Hemel mail centre, everything in yorks ,no pallets or rsc's.Alison me and you may well live in the same village, its 5.5 miles to the ascot road site and 4.5 to the new site in maylands Ave for me,so no traveling money for me,i think i am due to transfer 31 October as i am a mgv driver.I have been to the new gaff a couple of times and spoke to a few people i know on the processing and they say its not as bad as they thought it might of been, plenty of casuals at the moment, but that should fade out once the staff transfer in from Hemel,Stevenage and Watford. It is a big gaff and will proberly be able to cope with a stack more work than the incoming offices will throw at it,parking could be an issue, aslo the operational yard could prove to be a problem as they'll be about 70 7.5 tonners once all 3 offices are in,add to that the amount of dsa vehicles in the mornings......you are correct with your statementbuster01 wrote:in my opinion in a mail centre DONT get trained on anything! once you are trained on ANYTHING you have an obligation to perform these tasks. get trained on the forklift, its the ONLY thing you can use outside of royal mail.
I am excited but anxious about this move

But you get more dosh! Anyway, if you don't mind performing the task, what's the problem?buster01 wrote:in my opinion in a mail centre DONT get trained on anything! once you are trained on ANYTHING you have an obligation to perform these tasks. get trained on the forklift, its the ONLY thing you can use outside of royal mail.
Hi, Alison, btw. I'm at HCN now, operating iLSMs on the late shift. The place is HUGE, and we haven't got canteen facilities yet, so bring some sarnies with you. Would the village be King's Langley, by any chance? Anyway, good luck with the move. We've got some Watfordians here on late iLSMs already.
Re. parking - doesn't affect me, because I only live 10 mins walk away, so I walk there, but there doesn't seem to be much. Use a bike!

Re: Newbie to this site
I guess the Restraunt will go "live" Monday 3rd October, the last 1st class despatch from Watford is Monday 3rd October,i've spoke to a couple of staff from the Restraunt and they reckon to be starting at "HCN" that week. That will leave the inward & pdc(nights), deliveries, collection drivers and mgv drivers. The deliveries move looks sure to be put back to January instead of October, although the new Caxton Way MPU will be complete, looks like Kings Langley DO will be at the MPU on their own for a while, they are schedule to move in 17th October as far as i know!!
