W8 a minute, Mr Postman...

A STOURBRIDGE woman was left baffled as to what had happened to her parcel when a “lazy” postie left a card saying PKT OJR G8.

Fleur Daykin, an administrator for Dudley Council, spent several hours trying to figure out what the mysterious delivery note meant and eventually came to the conclusion it said ‘packet over gate’.

Mrs Daykin, of Stepping Stones, said: “It was hours later that my husband twigged what it meant and we looked and it was behind the gate.

“It’s shocking, absolutely shocking. Is this the kind of illiterate or lazy individual Stourbridge Royal Mail are employing these days?

“I am 37 not 17. I do not use text speak. There was no indication who in the property this packet was for. There were no identification details for the Royal Mail employee who left it either.

“Neither is ‘ova G8’ a secure place I’d like any parcels leaving, and it never has been. The parcel in question was worth over £60.”

Mrs Daykin, an internet and text savvy mum-of-one, said although she does not use text talk herself she believes there is a time and place for it.

But she added: “I’m just shocked that a postal worker would use that in their job. It’s funny now, but there’s plenty of people older than me who wouldn’t have had a clue what the card meant.”

A spokesman for the Royal Mail said: “We apologise to the customer for any inconvenience and are currently investigating with the local delivery office.

“This is obviously not standard practice. Our postmen and women are instructed to always provide clear information to customers when using these cards.”
