Market Drayton woman jailed over £32,500 Post Office theft

A 44-YEAR-OLD Market Drayton woman has been jailed after admitting stealing more than £32,500 from the post office where she worked.

Jillian Davitt, of Salisbury Hill View, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison when she appeared at Chester Crown Court yesterday.

Davitt had previously admitted charges of theft and false accounting, which relate to her time working as a counter assistant at Woore Post Office, near Market Drayton, between May 2008 and May 2009.

The sentence follows a two-year probe by Post Office fraud investigators which led to the premises being closed for a short time in 2009.
