Royal Mail posts first delivery success since September

The Royal Mail in Croydon hit its target for first class mail delivery for the first time since September last year, new figures show.

A total of 91.7 per cent of first class mail was delivered by the next working day in the CR area between late March and early June 2011.

The target was 91.5 per cent.

In the previous two quarters, the figures were 89.7 per cent and 88.9 percent, meaning more than one in ten first class letters were delivered late.

The results were released in the Quality of Service report on Friday, August 26.

In spring 2011, Guildford suffered the worst performance, with 81.3 per cent being delivered the next working day, while south west London, Kingston and Twickenham also failed to hit the target.

Nationally, more than half of postcode areas failed to meet the 91.5 per cent target for first class mail, while 98.4 per cent of second class mail was delivered on time, just 0.1 per cent short of its target.
