A FEMALE post office worker was threatened with a gun and tied up during a robbery in Ryton-on-Dunsmore.

The incident happened at the post office in Bagshaw Close yesterday (Monday) at 11.35am.

A man entered the post office and threatened the member of staff working behind the counter with what is believed to be a handgun.

She opened the gate and the man stole a quantity of cash, 2,000 euros and hundreds of first and second class stamps.

The man tied the woman by her hands and feet before stealing the keys to a blue ‘07 registration Vauxhall Corsa and taking the vehicle from outside the premises and driving off.

Police were alerted after the alarm was activated and the woman was found tied up behind the counter.

Officers are asking the public for help to identify the man, who is described as mixed race, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft 10ins tall, with a stocky build, wide face, Warwickshire accent and a noticeable deep scar in the corner of his right eye.

He was dressed in black clothing.

Police are also appealing to anyone who has been offered euros or the stamps, which have very distinctive Wallace and Gromit Christmas designs, to come forward.

CCTV has been checked by officers and patrols have been increased in the area in order to reassure the community and find any witnesses.

Call Det Con Sarah Clapham on 415000, extension 4172, or Det Con Heidi Twynham on extension 4158 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Woman tied up during Ryton post office raid http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/c ... -29250749/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A WOMAN was tied up and threatened with a gun during a terrifying raid at a post office near Coventry.

The robber fled with cash and hundreds of Wallace and Gromit Christmas stamps after bursting into the village post office at Ryton.

The business is in a small parade of shops in Bagshaw Close, a residential area not far from the A45.

The raider threatened the female member of staff with a handgun and demanded she opened the door so he could get behind the counter.

She did as she was told and the man stole an unspecified quantity of Sterling, 2,000 Euros and hundreds of first and second class stamps.

Police say the stamps were on A4 sheets of paper with a “very distinctive” Christmas Wallace and Gromit design.

The robber then tied the woman’s hands and feet before fleeing the scene in a blue 2007 Vauxhall Corsa after stealing the keys from inside the village post office.

Police were alerted to the incident, on Monday morning, after the woman sounded the alarm inside the building.

Warwickshire Police officers at the scene arrived to find the member of staff tied up behind the counter.

Officers investigating the raid are asking the public to help identify the gunman, as soon as possible.

He is described as mixed race, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 10ins, with a stocky build, wide face, with a local accent and a noticeable, old deep scar in the corner of his right eye.

He was dressed in black clothing.

Officers are also appealing to anyone who has been offered Euros or the distinctive Wallace and Gromit Christmas design stamps for sale in suspicious circumstances, since Monday.

Police officers are checking CCTV from the surrounding areas and have increased patrols in Ryton-on-Dunsmore to reassure the local community and establish potential witnesses.

The robbery took place at about 11.35am.

Anyone who has information which could help the inquiry is urged to call Detective Constable Sarah Clapham on 01926 415000, extension 4172 or Detective Constable Heidi Twynham on extension 4158.

Information about the robbery or the identity of the gunman can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
