PROTESTERS are demanding to meet Royal Mail managing director Mark Higson to ask him why a post collection point won’t be kept in Berkhamsted.
They say the post delivery company promised that despite the closure of the town’s sorting office, people would still be able to collect their post from a nearby location.
But now Royal Mail says townspeople will only be able to collect post from a centralised sorting office in Maxted Road, Hemel Hempstead, from August 22.
Post bosses stress that there is always the option for people to have their post redelivered for free at a later date.
But speaking on behalf of the Berkhamsted Citizens’ Association (BCA), Katy Brookes-Duncan said the Royal Mail has been inconsiderate.
In a statement, she said: “The association represent 410 households that are members and over 500 residents that signed its petition to keep a collection point on July 9.
“Many of these people have expressed their disbelief and anger at Royal Mail’s failure to consider their customers’ needs.
“The Citizens’ Association is frustrated by the Royal Mail’s failure to consult residents, general lack of communication and the superficial, trite standard replies sent in response to campaigners’ letters.”
The BCA are distributing advice leaflets and draft protest letters - email berkhamstedcitizens@hotmail.co.uk for more information.
Val Antoine, a spokesman for the Royal Mail, said: “We are contacting the Berkhamsted Citizens’ Association to arrange a meeting to discuss the points they have raised.”
