Allies & Morrison has submitted plans for a 6ha residential-led scheme in the Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea opportunity area.
The development, to be considered by Wandsworth Council, will replace the existing South London mail centre, which is due to close in 2012.
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “Royal Mail has a clear strategy to ensure we derive maximum value from any property we no longer require. This includes selling the freehold or leases which we hold, and, where appropriate, working with planning authorities to ensure that properties we are selling are attractive to new owners.”
A delivery centre is due to be retained at the site.
