Judge Beatrice Bolton faces second charge of failing to control her dog

A LEADING North East judge is being prosecuted for a second time following an allegation that her pet dog attacked a passer-by near her Northumberland home.

Judge Beatrice Bolton, 57, has been formally charged in relation to the allegation that her German Shepherd attacked and bit a 22-year-old man on June 1.

She is accused of having a dog dangerously out of control in a public place, near her family home in the Rothbury area.

Judge Bolton, who was charged with the offence when she responded to her police bail, is due to appear before magistrates in Preston, Lancashire, on July 29.

The case has been moved away from the North East courts because of her standing in the local judiciary.

Judge Bolton was arrested and had her family’s two German Shepherds seized by Northumbria Police after the 22-year-old reported the alleged attack in June.

Police said the dogs had been taken into custody “to assure public safety”.

At the time Judge Bolton was already under investigation over an allegation that a postman was attacked by a dog near her house in April.

In December last year she was convicted by a district judge at Carlisle magistrates’ court of failing to control her German Shepherd Georgina, after it attacked her neighbours’ son in the shared garden between their homes six months earlier.

That case was also moved out of the area because of Judge Bolton’s prominent position in North East legal circles. She swore and stormed out of court after the judge returned a guilty verdict following a two-day trial.

In April this year police were called after postman Kenneth Auld claimed he was bitten on the leg by a dog while delivering post near to Judge Bolton’s house.

Last night a Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Beatrice Bolton, of Whitton, Rothbury, has been charged with being in control of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place.

“The charge is in relation to a report of an incident on June 1. She will appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on July 29.”

She certainly can't control her dog, any of us who have dogs know how to train them and (more importantly) how to recognise when they're going to do anything dangerous, I can tell exactly what my dogs are going to do and I'll tell people accordingly.

"Last night a Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Beatrice Bolton, of Whitton, Rothbury, has been charged with being in control of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place."

Surely that should read that she has been charged with "being responsible for a dog dangerously out of control in a public place", how can she be in control of a dog out of control? :hmmmm

I think it would have been appropriate for the police to charge the dog with possession of a dangerously out-of control judge in a public place.
