ARE WE THE 3RD MOST PRODUCTIVE POSTIES IN THE WORLD

well in 2008 we were :hmmmm

http://www.postalnewsblog.com/2011/05/2 ... the-world/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Orginal Title: Anti-USPS group admits USPS workers are the most productive in the world

Here’s a strange one- the “Consumers Postal Council”, which is actually a front for the radical libertarian Lexington Institute, has something nice to say about the US Postal Service! Normally Lexington’s “reports” just keep repeating the mantra that the private sector could deliver the mail faster and cheaper. The fact that privatized posts tend to have higher costs and poorer service than the USPS doesn’t shake the faith of these true believers.

So it was startling to see an item on the “Postal Consumers Council” web site demonstrating that the USPS has by far the most productive work force in the world! There’s no indication why the group suddenly changed its attitude toward the USPS. Maybe the Chief Ideologue left early for the holiday weekend, or perhaps last week’s Rapture had something to do with it?

The productivity of national posts, as expressed by the number of business and personal letters per postal worker, varies widely, while the U.S. Postal Service averages more than twice the letter productivity of number two Korea Post.

The United States leads the category by a wide margin, with nearly 250,000 letters per postal worker in 2008, among the countries in the Consumer Postal Council’s Index of Postal Freedom. That’s nearly 140,000 letters per worker (full-time and part-time) more than the next country, South Korea.

Do those numbers take into account all those managers that make up the numbers or the MC staff who spend all day drooling......... :nervous

It also depends how you value productivity. A USPS operative drives round in a van and collects and delivers from the van window, to and from boxes that line the streets. A far less stressful and physical operation than that carried out by us.

My first thought .Americans have a mailbox culture ,
rather than a letterbox .
so no American postman walks 500 garden paths.
although im not for one minute suggesting they have it easy.,
minus 20deg winters,tornadoes hurricanes etc !
but figures only tell half the story.

ive got a problem with these figures.
allowing for holiday we deliver up to 46 weeks.
500 hundred delivery points at say an average of 3
letters in a slot thats 414,000

if you do 3 d2d thats 69000 alone!
if you do 5 d2d thats 115000
6 d2d currant max =138000! that would put us way ahead of korea on pure junkmail alone.
if you delivered just 2 addressed letters per customer per day (some average 5 or 6)
that alone is 276000.
whichever figures i use
add your addressed to your non addressed and we are clearly delivering over 300,000+ a year.

It's a shame Canada isn't on the list.
And I know for a fact that S.Korean managers routinely fiddle the figures to boost their bonuses. :hmmmm

The data is for 2008, so D2Ds would have been a maximum of 3 but I think it's fairly clear that they have not been included.

Out of interest, does the US postal service deliver unaddressed shite?

Figures Are per postal worker. I would think that would mean all staff, indoor and out,.
Despite the US postal sevices ' more mail per employee than any other postal service'. It still made a loss of more than 2 billion dollars last quarter
