Hey guys. I'm not actually a postie as yet - hoping to start training for an apprenticeship soon. My family all think I'm nuts. That's nothing new. Let's just say, I'm not in this for the financial benefits

Just thought I'd check into a site that could give me some input on what I'm getting myself into. Hope that's OK?

Hello and welcome Celena3.

The job is hard but usually very rewarding. But the best part about being a postie is the other posties both at work and on here. Hope you enjoy your time at Royal Mail.

By the way do you know yet what your first function will be. Delivery, Sorting etc.

Delivery, that's what I'm aiming for. I'm going for this job coz a) the thought of being stuck inside on my arse all day, in an office, makes me break out in hives b) getting the chance to mix with people, but also spend time alone. As I said - it's def not the pay I'm looking at  Can't be arsed with Uni either, tried it, lasted about 9 weeks before thinking "nope - not for me." I did good academically, my parents think I'm wasting myself, but Jesus I'm 22...I've still not got any clue what I'm going for in life, and never have, so I thought I'd play to my strengths

Hey, cheers for the encouragement guys!

I'm one of those annoyingly boring people who's not got many vices. I work out in the gym 5days/week, do a p/t cleaning job and walk roughly 60-90 mins a day. Yup, fitness freak. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Got put on some wacked-out sedative as a kiddie just to stop me climbing the walls....

I wake up about 5.30am naturally anyways, so I guess one hr earlier or so won't make much difference...it's not like I've got a choice. Doesn't matter if I've had a hefty night clubbing; body clock sez "wake up now!!" and that's it. Can't get back to sleep. So early starts aren't gonna be the hard part; that'll be the facing-the-elements bit. I'm used to working hard, physically, but indoors. Still, I'm up for a change. Can't stay in the job I'm in - you think YOU get paid piddles!!

I was up for joining the Army's Intel. Corps 2summers ago, til they checked my medical history and saw I've got hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)........ARSE. That put paid to that career choice. It's not like it bothers me that much, as long as I chew something every few hours. Ah well. Hopefully it won't f**k up my chances with RM. I'm so NOT keen on an office job, which is all my 'rents keep nagging me to do, for "financial security." Yeah, bugger that - what about my boredom threshold/sanity levels?! I'm too hyper for that kind of thing....

Its a job where you get bonding and team work half teh day and self employment for the rest.

It is a steep learning curve and you will finish very late for a couple of weeks and perhaps even think you are doing a different job to everyone else! But ... once you get the job under your belt you'll find it a nice occupation.

Spedley - cheers for the info dude, I'm used to working alone and as a team now so hopefully won't find that side of it too tough. As for starting early/finishing late...LOL my life revolves around that right now too, so won't be much of a chore!

Pistol - I work in a manual job at the moment, so know what you mean about dragging yourself to the gym afterwork!! Some days it feels like my brain's gonna start leaking out of my ears...But hey ho, I was training for the Army before, so this is kinda on a par with it, yeah? Toting several bags-worth of mail round for several miles a day, sounds familiar?! Hopefully I'll be fit enough to get on with the job, don't wanna let others down :d'oh! I train five days a week, mixed weights and cardio, and walk pretty much everywhere - think I'll be OK, me hopes?! Thanks for the encouragement :cool :Very Happy

Tommo my lover - noticed you've been branded the Nutter of the site, congrats!! Funnily enough I'm a size 5/6 in shoe myself, LOL. As for Arse-al *chuckle* not a f***ing chance, hon, I'm nota footie follower. SUPERBIKES all the way!!!! Rossi can gimme a ride home anyday :Very Happy

My drink of choice - non-existant (BOO!!) dodgy liver....um, too much drinking as a teen :no no  :d'oh! plus other health problems, put my drinking days to rest. Health problems = resolved now, but liver is not all there, ya get my drift? So life is probably a bit quieter in my hometown now I'm tee-total, but WHAT AN ARSE. Still, don't need alcohol to have a good time ALL the time...*she says*

Cheers for the replies, guys
