POSTAL STRIKES SUSPENDED

Following a meeting held today between Royal Mail and CWU a Joint Statement has been agreed that means detailed discussions will take place on all the relevant issues between the two parties.

As a result the next wave of Postal strikes due to commence today after 19.00 hrs are suspended.

The Joint Statement is as follows:-

Joint Statement â€“ Royal Mail Dispute

At a meeting today between Allan Leighton, Adam Crozier, Billy Hayes and Dave Ward, it was agreed:

- that both parties commit to talks on all the issues between them, hosted and facilitated by the TUC. Both sides commit to reach an agreement by 4 September.
- that, during this period the talks are on a confidential basis with no media or internal briefings unless explicitly jointly agreed. The CWU Executive and Royal Mail Board will receive regular updates on progress and would also be expected to undertake this confidentiality clause.
- that, for that period, Royal Mail will not serve notice or take any unilateral action to impose changes by executive action.
- that, for that period CWU will suspend industrial action.
- that, the signatories to this joint statement will review the process as and when necessary.

The statement is signed by Allan Leighton and Adam Crozier for Royal Mail and Billy Hayes, General Secretary and Dave Ward Deputy General Secretary for CWU.

As feared, as soon as RM agrees to talks, the action is called off. For what? The chance for management to drag things out and the members are demobilised. We should be taking action until RM agree to:

scrapping unagreed changes to attendance;
no further job losses;
no changes to pensions for either existing or future workforce'
a consolidated pay increase at LEAST in line with inflation.

Now I'm slightly annoyed ........no I'm really pissed off

we needed to keep the pressure up on :lfo :cfo by continuing the strikes. Now I'm going to lie down and try to relax

seriously hope a decent agreement is made or else I can see a keggie/johnson scenario ie: they get voted out at the earliest opportunity.

what happens if they don't come to an agreement by 4th September?Its taken 2 months or so to get this far.

My rep reckons this is a good thing and if the talks do fail
we can hit them again in september when mail volumes
are much bigger......I'm pissed already arranged a poker
gathering for friday!

Thanks a bunch for the late notice.
First there will be a lot of night workers, in mail centres, who didn't bother to have much sleep today!
I think these talks will just allow RM to regroup, get more casuals trained up and get all the new bullets and tanks they need to come back blasting.
As i said before, that better keep the strike live by reps going out for 15 mins, other wise they may not win another ballot.
Probally a wrong move by the cwu but time will tell.

This is a copy of the email I just recieved

A message from Billy Hayes, General Secretary and Dave Ward, Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

Following a meeting held today between the Billy Hayes General Secretary, Dave Ward DGSP, Alan Leighton and Adam Crozier a Joint Statement has been agreed.

The Statement commits Royal Mail and the Union to talks, facilitated by the TUC on all the issues that separate the two sides. In addition, Royal Mail and the Union are committed to reaching an agreement by the 4th September.

Additionally, it has been agreed that the signatories to the Joint Statement will review the process as and when necessary. The Statement includes a commitment from Royal Mail that they will not serve notice or take any unilateral executive action during this period.

It also commits the union to suspend industrial action during the same period. The current notices for industrial action will be withdrawn from the period beginning 19.00 hours Thursday 9Th August and letters to Royal Mail notifying them of this have been sent today.

Can you please make sure that if any of your colleagues who do not receive this email alert are contacted about the suspension of all industrial action. We thank you for your continued support during these difficult times. Further updates will follow.
