A PENSIONER drove 13 miles to send his granddaughter a birthday card – after scrap metal thieves stole all 10 postboxes near his home.

Charles Tibbitts, 67, went to post the card in Lydd, Kent, and found just a hole in the wall where the box had been.

He went to New Romney and Dymchurch… but theirs had gone, too. He finally drove to Hythe, where he found one. Charles said: “I couldn’t believe someone would be so desperate for money.”

Royal Mail added: “We will look to replace the post boxes as soon as possible.”
