A POSTMAN at Croydon sorting office stole letters containing credit and debit cards and sold them.

Terral Allen took more than 800 items intended for homes in the Orchard Way area of Shirley.

His thieving ways were discovered after residents complained about an erratic service.

At Croydon Crown Court on Friday the 22 year-old, of Grove Road, Thornton Heath, was jailed for 18 months after admitting five charges of theft.

Recorder Jeremy Benson told Allen, who was of previous good character: "Thefts by Post Office employees are extremely serious. They are a breach of trust and impugn the integrity of the Royal Mail.

"Suspicion was raised as far as other employees were concerned. It is difficult to estimate the value but you must have known the only reason someone would buy stolen credit cards was to gain by it.

"The potential loss is an important feature to take into account."

Idiots like that undo all the good work we do and odds are he will be held up as an example next time some lame brain wants to take a pop at us. It's as gratifying to see thieves walked out of the office as it is to see the choccy dispenser supplies walked in.

With Royal Mail brining in 1hr contracts and making us start later I can see this sort of thing happening all too often. The people who don't want to work for a living but have to so they can get Job seekers or something, will see RM as an easy target. Work as few hours as possible, claim job seekers, and nick stuff from the post it would seem to good to be true to some of these lowlifes. Normally the early starts were enough to put most of them off but it they are starting at 8.00 that's like a normal working day.

He is scum and would sink so low that he would probably scab if he were still employed so he could steal more on strike days.

and that's only the ones we hear about, we had a casual from somewhere in russia
that was nicking credit cards, but he 'diasappeared' before they could charge him....lol

he was sending them back home to his mates and as usual it's our good names that get tarnished
